Signed & Un-Signed 1953 Canadian Exhibit Baseball Cards

Breaking up a Complete Set, includes Autographed issues, Ted Williams, Doby, Newhouser, Reese, Stanky, Carrasquel, Alston, Musial etc

Size - 3 1/4" x 5 /14" - Numbered - 1 to 64 on Front - Blank Backs

Years ago I obtained 753 of these directly from the vending & distribution company where they sat undisturbed for many years. Each exhibit was issued in 2 colors. Of these, # 1 to 32 there were 195 Purple & 57 Green & # 33 to 64 the quantities were 376 Blue & 125 Brown.

The owner of the vending company advised the uneven card production was purposely created so pursuer's would keep inserting coins in their attempt to complete a set. As an example in # 1 to 32 there were only 4 each of Joe DiMaggio, Newhouser & Spahn & 3 of Brecheen & within # 33 to 64 only 6 ea of Sandy Amoros & Ronnie Lee out of 753.

In 1991 The Hager Group of Calgary Alberta issued a Canadian Sports Card Guide where I obtained some information regarding "Short Printed" (SP) cards. Past orders, want lists & my original inventory further added to my suspicions. Also, there was mutual belief others may also have been short printed (SP?), see below or at the very least are in short supply & rarely seen. My original quantities for these ranged from 5 - 7 per player, much lower than others. Those who have attempted to complete sets are aware of the shortages. Current U.S. & Canadian price guides don't have or include the above information.

The exhibits were probably printed for the Quebec market, since the only International League team in the set are the Montreal Royals, AAA farm team of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Toronto & Ottawa were also in the league at the time. In addition there are 7 Dodgers in # 1 - 32.

Numbers 1 - 32, Purple & Green were printed in significantly lower quantities than # 33 - 56. Some players in Purple are scarce to very scarce. Green was printed in much lower quantities than Purple & ranges from Very Scarce to Rare & the least seen of the 4 issued colors & has been this way for many years. Joe DiMaggio & in particular the Green is the Rarest issue in the set. Do a search on ebay / Web  & see for yourself.

Numbers 33 - 64, Blue & Brown - The most predominant of the 4 colors & seen most often is Blue. They were printed in the largest quantities & are for the most part common. Brown was printed in lower quantities than Blue. A few players in both colors range from hard to very hard to find - # 43 Sandy Amoros & # 51 Ronnie Lee were short printed (SP).

All are Original Issues - No Reprints

# 33 to 56 & 61 are Montreal Royals, Dodgers AAA International League farm team although # 44 Bob Milliken is shown in a Dodgers uniform
